devMEET Day! :D

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 18, 2009, 3:26 AM

Journal

So today's the day of the Brighton devMEET that myself and =Alomie are organising! :eager: Should hopefully be a good day - the weather's not bad, it's rather windy, but the sun's out and there are interesting fluffy white clouds around. I think there's some rain forecast this evening, but we'll be well ensconced in a pub by then I would think!

In other news, last weekend we went to visit my parents on the border of Wales in the deep countryside. The weather was a let-down and didn't give much opportunity for photography, which was one of the main things I was looking forward to (other than seeing my parents of course!), but I still managed to get a few shots which are useable. I haven't got around to processing them yet though - Battlefield Heroes ([link]) is taking up time which would normally be reserved for that :lmao:

Also, I'm building myself a new rig :eager:. =Alomie's having my current machine as it's way more powerful than her laptop and can easily handle Photoshop and all the current games etc. So in under two weeks I'll be ordering all the parts to build myself...

  • AMD Phenom II X4 940 (3GHz / core, 4 cores)
  • 8GB PC2 8500 1066MHz OCZ Reaper RAM
  • 2 x 320Gb 7200rpm SATA II drives in a RAID0 striped array for highspeed performance
  • nVidia GTX275 896Mb DDR3 gfx card with dual DVI and HDMI-out
  • Bluray drive
  • 24" Iiyama HD 2ms monitor
  • Saitek Eclipse II gaming keyboard (to replace my now dead G15)
So yeah, now ya know ;) Also getting a new 32" HD telly so we can get rid of our hulking great CRT one to make room for a new desk for =Alomie and her new machine.

A little about me: I'm a 32 yr old photographer and artist from Brighton, UK.

By trade I'm a freelance software engineer, currently working in the Formula 1 racing industry.

When I'm not working I'm usually involved in my photography, painting / drawing or gaming. I'm an avid CounterStrike: Source player, and am currently considering getting back into playing competitively.

I'm your fairly stereotypical geek I suppose - I love technology, computers, music, reading, popular science, quantum and astro-physics, mathematics (particularly number theory) and all things like that. I also enjoy socialising with friends (and my wonderful fiancée of course!), cooking and eating out, movies, galleries, pubbing (but not clubbing) and all that fun stuff.

So there you go, me in a nutshell :D
